Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur
Maharaja Umaid
Singhji who built this palace was fascinated with western lifestyles so he marshalled
the services of a well-known Edwardian architect, Henry Vaughan Lanchester, a
creditable equal of Edward Lutyens (architect of New Delhi) to construct a three
hundred and forty seven roomed Umaid Palace.
City Palace, Alwar
It represents a intermingling
of Rajput and Mughal stvles. It has graceful marble pavilions set on lotus flower
bases in the central courtyard.
Lalgarh Palace, Bikaner
This grand palace is
an architectural masterwork in red sandstone, and was built by Maharaja Ganga
Singh Ji in the memory of his father Maharaja Lal Singh Ji in 1902. Sir Swinton
Jacob designed this oriental fantasy.
City Palace, Jaipur
The City Palace Complex
gives you an idea about the far sightedness of the founder of Jaipur Sawai Jai
Singh. He left behind a legacy of some of the most imposing and magnificent architecture,
art and craft structure in the city.
Lake Palace, Udaipur
It is a magical palace
and its image in the middle of the lake is like a leaf straight out of a fairy
tale book with an excellent taste of intricate craftsmanship and the ethnic themes
using the textiles and handicrafts all over highlight the beauty that is simply
beyond compare the lake around makes a pleasant murmur with its rippling waves
and lapping that adds to the mesmerising moments.
City Palace, Udaipur
City Palace towers
over the Pichola Lake. Maharana Uday Singh initiated in the construction of the
palace but succeeding Maharanas added several palaces and structures to the complex
retained a surprising uniformity to the design.
Luni Fort, Jodhpur
The fort is composed
of a lyrical complex of courtyards towers, water, wheels, stables, passages and
unexpected stairways to secret pavilions and panoramic roof tops spanning the
village below and the Thar horizon beyond. The traditional paintings on the walls
harmoniously reflect the skill of the master craftsmen and the bygone days.
Chittorgarh Fort
The Fort is on a 280-hectare site
on the top of a 180-metre-high hill, which rises abruptly from the surrounding
plain. There are many palaces within the fort like Rana Kumbha Palace, Fateh Prakash
Palace, Tower of Victory and Padmini's Palace, which are a must see for the tourists.
This hilltop fortress of Chittorgarh epitomizes the romantic and doomed ideal
of Rajput chivalry.
Kumbhalgarh Fort, Udaipur
Cradled in the Aravali
Ranges the fort was built in the 15th century by Rana Kumbha. Because of its inaccessibility
and hostile topography the fort had remained un-conquered. It also served the
rulers of Mewar as a refuge in times of strife. The fort also served as refuge
to the baby king Udai of Mewar.
Junagarh Fort, Bikaner
One of the most imposing
forts of Northern India-- Junagarh Fort has remained unconquered till date. This
fort was built in 15th century by one of the most able and trusted generals of
Akbar, Raja Rai Singh.
Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur
Rao Jodha founded it
in 1459 but subsequent rulers of Jodhpur have also added to it over the centuries.
A meandering road leads to the from the city 5 kms below. Battle scars of canon
ball hit by attacking armies of Jaipur can still be seen on the second gate.
Jaisalmer Fort
